It may sound harsh, but I see so many people giving up on YouTube because they are told growing is not important but then they see that growth is still the No. Just posting videos because YOU entertain YOURSELF will not get you big or growing. Just posting videos for the sake of posting will not get you big or growing. Do you want to inform people? That's your value. What value you are to your audience is depending on your videos and niche. Know your target audience (check your demographic stats) and be of value to them. You need to enjoy it in order to even consider doing it. You will especially not perform well when you hate it. You will not go through the mess that is YouTube when you hate it. Enjoying what you do is not the motivation but your foundation. I hear this so often "Just do what you enjoy" - "Do it for fun" - "Don't do it for growth" - "Don't do it for money" and I think that is that kind of toxic positivity that turned especially Content Creation into a space where people are afraid to say that they wanna grow and earn money because people will tell them they do it out of the wrong reasons. If you actually like your own content, you'll probably keep producing it But it should grow exponentially as you grow and continue to produce. It's really intense-unless some random person is able to blow you up because they can influence their friends to watch your content, and then it grows from there-but you have to think of it in terms of for every 100 subscribers you get, maybe 4-6 of those people are really dedicated to your videos when you're just a small channel. I think the audience will come if you grind, keep pushing your presence on social media (Twitter and Reddit for me) and keep coming out with videos you're proud of. I don't make them much longer than 10 minutes MAX, and I really edit it to only contain the best/most creative parts. At the same time, I recognize common social consensus and I only apply that to the framework of my videos.
That's a curse in some way though because it yields a smaller audience, but, when it becomes an audience, they will be die-hard. I'm a unique consumer/producer because I don't consume/produce content that is common: I like original and unique ideas. And then hopefully your "personality" might hold the audience through the video. You need to be able to edit it so that it's only the best parts to keep it tight and concise, and you need to make sure the audio is good. So I won't adjust my content because I need a "less funny" person's audience to like my stuff.īut I also think that there are some key things you need to do in order to make sure you actually are making a good video. I also think I'm unique in what I'm doing though, and I believe in it. So, in a way, I'm trying to slowly accrue an audience that actually thinks my absurdity is funny, and I know this will be a slow grind because I think my type of humor doesn't hit with a LARGE LARGE audience. I'm making the videos that I want to make, and I want the audience to be the people that like this type of video. Yeah, I'm personally going through something like this right now.
